SHOP MANAGER | LOWER HUTT
Starting as a store staff member three years ago, Kiah has gone from strength to strength to now be Store Manager for BurgerFuel Lower Hutt. Kiah credits the support of her team and the friends she’s made along the way for her success. The biggest reward? Making customers smile, feeling connected to her community and being nominated for Store of the Year and Shop Manager of the Year at the BurgerFuel 2023 Purple Carpet Awards.
How did you first get involved with BurgerFuel?
Through my mum, I hadn’t heard of BurgerFuel until she handed me a job application, which she got through a family friend who at the time had a daughter working in the Lower Hutt store. I handed it in, got the job and that’s where it all began.
What was the thing that attracted you the most to?
The people, our team is probably the biggest part of why I fell in love with BurgerFuel. I’ve made friends and family with not just the BurgerFuel crew, but the customers I’ve gotten to know throughout the years as well.
What do you tell your mates and family about BurgerFuel, what are the perks and best parts of being part of the store staff?
Aside from getting some pretty tasty burgers on my breaks! A major perk is HQ family! Each year on the anniversary date of which we started working we get gifts to celebrate us and our amazing work! I brag all the time to my family about how I’ve made some really good friends and the once in a lifetime opportunities I’ve been given. From the Good Bastard programme where I got to cook burgers with the masterminds themselves Cuz & Chris! To the Store Manager Conference where I got to tour the Weta workshop! And don’t even get me started on how special it was to be a part of the Purple Carpets at Auckland Zoo!
What motivates and makes you proud to represent the BurgerFuel brand?
My biggest motivation is the customers as well as my team. Nothing makes me prouder than receiving compliments from customers on both mine and my team service and our perfect burgs. Being able to come into work every day knowing I can put a smile on someone’s face is incredibly empowering. And nothing makes me prouder than hearing the team hype each other up, a good team makes all the difference.
What is one of the greatest opportunities BurgerFuel has given you? The greatest opportunity overall was Paul Longley hiring and training me in the first place, hard work and determination got me to where I am today. However personally the best opportunity BurgerFuel has ever given me, was being able to attend the BurgerFuel Purple Carpet Awards in 2023, and to be nominated for both the best Storage Manager and Store of the Year! The determination to win both awards next year is strong!
What is one thing you would say to any potential individual who is looking to work at BurgerFuel?
Come join the family, not only will you make some long-life friends. You’ll learn some pretty dope skills along the way! BurgerFuel offers plenty of opportunities, from becoming a burger specialist to trips around the country! You also get a few exclusive burger gifts!
