Meet the Franchisee: Krystina Nottle – BurgerFuel Mount Maunganui

For BurgerFuel Mount Maunganui franchisee Krystina Nottle, hospitality has always been part of her story. Growing up in nearby Te Puke, she began her journey in the industry at just 15 years old, working for a competing brand and developing a passion for customer service, people, and fast-paced environments.

After spending 16 years with her previous employer, Krystina was looking for a new opportunity when she stumbled across a role with BurgerFuel Head Office. What started as an application for an Area Manager position led to her eventually heading up Health and Safety for the brand.

"I went for an interview and realised how amazing the brand was, how great the team were, and there was just a really good feel about it," says Krystina. "I was super nervous because I'd been with my previous company for so long, but it ended up being one of the best decisions I've made."

After seven years working at BurgerFuel Head Office, a new opportunity presented itself when the local Mount Maunganui store became available for purchase. Ready for a fresh challenge, Krystina and her husband decided to take the leap into franchise ownership.

"Knowing how great the brand is, we thought we'd give it a shot."

Since becoming a franchisee in 2022, BurgerFuel has become much more than a business. It's become a way of life.

"BurgerFuel is a big part of our lives. My husband and I have made some great friends during our journey, met some really cool people, and had the opportunity to employ lots of young people. It's incredibly rewarding watching them grow, develop, and achieve great results."

One of the things Krystina loves most about running BurgerFuel Mount Maunganui is the variety that each day brings.

"No day is ever the same. There's always something new happening and the challenge to do well never ends."

Driven by a strong internal motivation to succeed, Krystina thrives on creating a positive environment for both her team and customers. Ask her team what she's like, and they'll likely tell you she's someone who works hard and is always willing to support others.

Her favourite moments at the store come after a busy service when the team has worked together seamlessly.

"When we've had a great shift, smashed out burgers quickly, and everyone has worked well together, that's a great feeling."

Proud to Be Part of the Mount Community

Mount Maunganui is one of New Zealand's most iconic coastal destinations, and Krystina loves being part of such a vibrant community.

"The Mount has it all Mauao, the ocean, heaps of sports and activities, and a great vibe."

The store regularly supports local ocean-based events and junior sports teams, helping give back to the community that supports them year-round.

When she's not at the store, you'll often find Krystina enjoying some of the region's best simple pleasures: grabbing a great coffee, walking up Mauao for that sense of achievement, and finishing it all off with a refreshing swim in the ocean.

Favourite order: Hamburgini with Onion Rings.

Underrated menu item: "The TBird with cheese, bacon and pineapple. More people need to try it!"
