With BurgerFuel founder, Mason, at the wheel, the first store on Ponsonby Road introduced a fresh new take on ‘the gourmet burger’, blending passion for quality products, people, and promotions to stand out in the fast-casual scene. The new store, inspired by flames and fuel, not only sparked a new dining concept but also literally caught fire when its ignitable storefront signage went up in flames.

BurgerFuel was growing and caught the attention of Josef Roberts. Josef, having left behind the world of Red Bull, started his burger crusade as a shareholder and director with a strong focus on bringing epic burgers to the masses through local and international expansion. With major success as the founder of Red Bull Australasia, Josef was ready to give BurgerFuel wings.

Mid 2007 BurgerFuel gave all its fans, staff and believers a little piece of their heart, successfully launching the first New Zealand restaurant chain onto the NZ Alternative Stock Exchange - in typical BurgerFuel fashion. Shares could be bought in store with your burger, online, and in just about any way you could possibly think of.

With stores now in New Zealand and (at the time) Australia, BurgerFuel lands a new international territory, half a world away. The first official international store to open outside the South Pacific was Al Khobar, a 200 seater burger behemoth in Saudi Arabia. BurgerFuel thrived in the Middle East opening across multiple locations in Dubai, Egypt, Kuwait and more.

High-energy burgers go hand-in-hand with a high-energy lifestyle, so we transformed our HQ basement into the BurgerFuel Athletic Department (B.A.D), an underground gym embodying a "work hard, train hard, play hard" ethos. Led by coach Josh (stuntman and trainer to the stars), B.A.D offers high-intensity strength and conditioning sessions for staff, franchisees, and Friends of the Fuel.

Radio BurgerFuel was born from the desire to elevate the in-store music experience to match the energy of our food and atmosphere. Streaming from our purpose built HQ studio to BurgerFuel stores, the station features an ‘alternative mainstream’ playlist. Also serving as a creative platform for established and emerging local artist interviews and content, plus debuting international artists' new tracks.

After securing the ultimate site on Jumeirah Road, one of Dubai’s most prestigious streets, and with over two years of development behind it, the first purpose-built BurgerFuel drive-thru opened in September of 2013, to serve the world’s best gourmet burgers to drivers in the car-mad Middle East.

After much anticipation, BurgerFuel Bush Inn in Christchurch opens after a long awaited campaign by dedicated Cantabrians to bring the BurgerFuel burger to the south. The store was the largest of its kind in New Zealand and set opening day sales records for the country!

Hot off the back of the Indy 500, BurgerFuel Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, swung its doors open in May 2017. The first BurgerFuel store in the USA was a key milestone in the global journey of BurgerFuel with the flagship restaurant located on a large stand-alone site in thriving Broad Ripple, a suburb filled with bars, clubs, eateries as well as four large universities.

We know a thing or two about making good burgers, so we launched a new burger joint, Shake Out. Serving up a highly addictive, simple menu of burgers, shakes and sides and combining quality ingredients, frictionless technology and cashless service. Simple, premium and delicious.

In a playful rivalry we went head-to-head with Hell, using slow-cooked Oamaru lamb as the star ingredient to win over the hearts (and stomachs) of fans. Our contender, the Roundhouse Ram Burger, faced their Silencer Pizza, fuelled by social media banter and pranks. We took things up a notch by graffitiing Hell’s ‘68 Cadillac hearse with "Pizza’s are dead. Burgers 4 Eva." We’re calling it a KO.

After launching the lovechild concept brand, Shake Out, like any famous 90’s rock musician, we distanced ourselves and kept the lineage under wraps. But Shake Out was growing up and had other ideas. Growing from 4 bricks and mortar stores, we added multiple locations delivering solely through a new virtual model. Shake Out is expertly crafted from select BurgerFuel Kitchens.
