BurgerFuel x Forty Thieves

Founded in 2016, Forty Thieves has grown from making a box of nut butters in a day (in a simple blender!) to producing approx. 30,000 jars every week, in their Hibiscus Coast factory.

Following a year of overseas travel packed with hikes, swims, sailing and running, Brent and Shyr realised that peanut and nut butters were the best natural fuel to power adventure. Pairing this with Brent’s love of endurance sports and Shyr’s passion for healthy eating, they came back to NZ to make energy-boosting treasure for fuelling everyday and epic adventures!

We first met the pair when they started the business, as we explored a way for them to help us produce our world-famous peanut sauce, used in our crowd favourite, the Peanut Piston and Combustion Tofu. We wanted to create a new Peanut Sauce, that was locally made, by a New Zealand company, which held a lot of the same values as us, naturally it became a very good fit with the Forty Thieves team and the hero ingredient was formed.

Unfortunately, on a dark day in 2016, we took our beloved Peanut Piston and Combustion Tofu off the menu, in turn putting the Peanut Sauce with Forty Thieves on hold. But the demand for its return has been consistent, and loud, and the Peanut Piston has made its return in 2025. We got back in touch with Forty Thieves who had since become New Zealand’s first peanut butter manufacturer to produce its own Peanut Satay! Through over 50 iterations, the final product has won a Gold Medal at the Outstanding Food Producer’s awards and secured a spot on shelves at New World supermarkets.

Whilst their products and taste profile are important, giving back to the community is an equal focus for the Hibiscus Coast company. Forty Thieves measures and offsets all their carbon, chooses sustainable packaging and protects local birdlife by donating towards pest trapping. They also work with food banks, helping supply quality ingredients for those in need.
