At BurgerFuel, evolution is baked into everything we do, from flipping burgers to fitting out our stores. Every build brings a chance to do things smarter, leaner, and with less impact on the planet. Our new Royal Oak store is no exception.
When we began planning the site, the vision was simple: create another epic BurgerFuel that delivers the same high-quality food and great experience our customers expect. But as the build got underway, an opportunity emerged to do things differently — and better.
Instead of our usual mix of gas and electric used to power the new outlet, we were able to push the boundaries, heading down a fully electric path. Thanks to the availability of a decent electricity supply in that location as well as electric versions of our core kitchen equipment (big ups to our mates at Moffat), combined with streamlined installation options, the choice to power the whole store without gas became possible and was a natural step forward. The result? BurgerFuel Royal Oak is our first-ever store running 100% on electricity.
What does that mean? Two electric grills, two electric fryers, a fast-recovery hot water cylinder, and no gas lines in sight. Not only does this reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, but it also means the Royal Oak store will avoid the carbon emissions that come from burning gas. Running on electricity (especially as more renewable energy enters the grid) is a step in the right direction.
Of course, going electric isn’t without its unknowns. It’s new territory for our crew and our kitchens, and we’ll be putting the gear through its paces to make sure it holds up to the BurgerFuel standard. “But sometimes”, as our Building Construction Manager Dylan says, “necessity is the mother of invention”, and this switch could pave the way for how we design and power stores into the future.
BurgerFuel Royal Oak is the first, but it might just spark the next generation of BurgerFuel kitchens.
