SHOP MANAGERS | ROTOTUNA
Working with family isn’t always the easiest thing but Abbey and Henry make it look easy! With Abbey already an established part of the BurgerFuel Rototuna team, her brother Henry also fell in love with the brand and wanted to be a part of it, that’s where the ‘dream team’ was formed. Having both worked their way up to Store Managers in what’s known as the ‘Cam Fam’ (The BurgerFuel system across the Waikato) they both credit the limitless opportunities that BurgerFuel gives them to their ongoing motivation and development. The biggest reward: they both firmly agree that it’s helping others in the team grow and develop and seeing how far they can go.
How did you first get involved with BurgerFuel?
Abbey - I’d applied on three separate occasions before I got my first interview! Third times a charm, hey? I guess I did learn something at Uni because my Cover Letter writing skills improved enough for my franchisee to give me a chance.
Henry – It wasn’t quite a shoe in… but a good word from Abbey got me my first (and only) job with BurgerFuel!
What was the thing that attracted you the most to?
Abbey - the people. I’d watch staff at my local Fuel having the time of their lives on shift - I was envious! I wanted it for myself.
Henry - Gotta be the food.. I mean the prospect of being able to eat that day in day out was my main attraction.
What do you tell your mates and family about BurgerFuel, what are the perks and best parts of being part of the store staff?
Abbey - Obviously the super sick uniform helps, but the ultimate perk is getting to work for a brand that WANTS us to enjoy coming to work every day. We are looked after, as people. The opportunities are, quite literally, endless. You work hard for the brand, and in turn, it’ll work hard for you.
Henry - Like Abbey said the uniform is pretty sick, other than that I think my friends know just as much about what's going on in the store than I do, because there is always something wild and interesting to tell them, the fun and antics we have almost never stop. Abbey and I got to cruise around in a sick purple wrapped BurgerFuel slapped 71’ Ranchero (classic car) all last summer, and I don’t think there are many others my age that would get to do that.
What motivates and makes you proud to represent the BurgerFuel brand?
Both - As Store Managers, we drive the culture in our stores and support the experience our people have working for us. It’s an incredible privilege to help my team grow (getting teary eyed thinking about it, actually - we’re very proud of them!). My people motivate me. We are nothing without them. I am proud to work for BurgerFuel because I am proud of my team.
What is one of the greatest opportunities BurgerFuel has given you?
Both – On top of the career growth and free food, the greatest opportunity was meeting SO MANY amazing people (collectively bonding over our love for BurgerFuel). I met my best friends in the whole world on shift. Every store we step foot into, we make lifelong connections.
An added benefit too would be working so closely with each other. Every Shift we work together is guaranteed to be the best shift yet. We barely even fight!
What is one thing you would say to any potential individual who is looking to work at BurgerFuel?
Abbey - Do it. Goodness, do it! Don’t even think about it. Why are you questioning it?? There’s no brand on earth quite like it. I promise, within 6 months you’ll be hooked. It’s an addiction + true love I’ll never be able to shake.
Henry - Think about the food! But also go for it! because you will quickly learn how amazing it is to work for BurgerFuel, top to bottom the teams are like no other.
Cameron McLeod - BurgerFuel Rototuna Franchisee
"Abbey started as part timer at BurgerFuel Frankton and quickly climbed the ladder up to a shift manager. After leaving for a short while, she quickly saw the purple light and returned. She then accepted the challenge and became the shop manager for Frankton. She also juggled other roles including store opening support, training and assisting with Shake Out. She then moved to Rototuna as Shop Manager for the last 18 months. Abbey has been involved with LSM across both brands and is a natural in this area. She gets on with everyone and creates a harmonious work environment. Henry started his BurgerFuel career in Rototuna whilst at school and over the last few years has achieved 2IC status in both Frankton and Rototuna. He has assisted Abbey over the last 6 months as her 2IC as they both work together to effectively run the store. It has been a great combination enabling both to lean on each other and share the load."
