FEEDING THE LEGENDS: Mummys In Need

Posted by BurgerFuel

Every month we shout burgers to the legends among us who give back to their community or help people in need.

This month, we highlight Mummys in Need, for the incredible work they do in our community.

Founded in 2012 by Tayla Nasmith, Mummys In Need operates as a crisis support agency to other social agencies, with a mission to support families when they experience hardship. As a not-for-profit organisation, Mummys in Needs vision is to provide a wrap around support service for families and their children by ensuring every baby has the correct necessities to enter the world safely.

The organisation helps source pre-loved children's items to hand out to around 400 vulnerable children in our community per month. Everything that is given to families is cleaned thoroughly, safety checked, in great condition and is lovingly packaged for new families. They provide items such as nappies and wipes, through to prams, cots, car seats and everything in between.

Mummys In Need works closely alongside the NZ Police, Oranga Tamariki, Family Success Matters, Family Start, DHB's, ADHB, Midwives and other organisations to help children they see in the community that are disadvantaged.

In addition to their day-to-day operations, Mummys in Need run three other programmes, that aim to provide a holistic wrap around services for families. The Community Pay It Forward Day aims to provide members of the public with essential items, in a non judgemental environment. A parent support group called Giggle and Grow, is a facilitated group with learning structures in place to support a parent in their journey. And most recently, Mummys In Need have launched a programme called Nurturing Arms, that aims to be an in-home respite care for families who just need a bit more hands-on help in their home life.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything at Mummys in Need and without them, the organisation simply would not be where it is today.

To share our appreciation for their generosity to the community, and the time that their volunteers continually give, we'll be feeding the team at Mummys in Need with burgers!
