How do I apply?

Do I need any additional paperwork to submit my application?
Not at first, you'll just need to tell us why you'll make a great business owner. Any other requirements will be outlined in the interview process.
How long will the application process take?
This varies from case to case, but once a franchise agreement has been signed, a successful candidate could be opening the doors to their new store in anywhere from 6-12 months depending on the availability of sites.
Can I be a multi-site franchisee?
Yes you can, as long as the franchise meets our growth and renewal criteria.
Do I get to select the location where I will open a franchise?
Our in-house experts will work with franchisees to help assess locations and ensure the site is feasible.
How much does it cost to build a BurgerFuel store?
Costs can change considerably depending on the type of store required for the given area and the expected store volume. Store build costs in New Zealand start at $500,000 plus.
What is the cost of purchasing a BurgerFuel franchise area and training costs?
$50,000 franchise fee (paid in $5,000 annual instalments), $15,000 franchisee training fee, and (approximately) $25,000 staff training costs.
How much royalty do I expect to pay to the franchisor?
7% of net turnover, calculated monthly.
How much is the advertising contribution to build the sales of my store?
5% of net turnover calculatedmonthly.
What is the minimum cash unencumbered amount I must have to be considered for a franchise?
60% of the in-going capital, however, we believe finding the right person is more important than funding and will consider all applicants on a case-by-case basis.
Can I invest in a BurgerFuel and run it under management?
Franchising is an owner-operated business format, and our most successful stores have the franchisee at the helm each day. However, should a prospective candidate have an investment partner who is prepared to share some of the financial risk in setting up a BurgerFuel franchise we will consider this on a case-by-case basis.
I am really interested but don't think I have the right financials. Can you help?
Absolutely, part of the process is assessing your current financials, however we also recommend that you seek independent advice. We believe finding the right person is just as important as funding, so will consider all applicants with the right attitude on a case-by-case basis.
What are the expected returns from owning a BurgerFuel franchise?
This area will be discussed through the selection process to the satisfaction of the applicant.
How long is the training?
Minimum 12-16 weeks under the BurgerFuel training programme. Franchisees must be prepared to travel to Auckland for their training, if required.
How long does the franchise agreement last?
10 years with a right of renewal based on performance for a further 10 years.
Do I have to work in store?
As franchising is an owner-operated business format, our most successful stores have the franchisee at the helm each day. Rolling up your sleeves to get the job done is all part of becoming a business owner.
